Description:

Every winter, wildlife enthusiasts brave the frigid Midwest cold to experience for themselves one of Alton’s greatest treasures, bald eagles. Typically, the eagles soar into the Alton, Illinois area in late December or early January and migrate north in mid- to late March. Don’t miss them!

The eagles can be seen flying all over Alton, especially on the Great River Road. An active eagle’s nest can be spotted across from the National Great Rivers Museum on Route 143 in Alton.

Bundle up, sit back, and enjoy one of Alton’s most beautiful sights – the flight of the eagles. Remember to bring your binoculars and camera and don’t let them fly away without snapping a picture!

You can get ready for the next eagle season by downloading the Alton Visitor Center’s “Eagle Watch STL” app, available for iPhone or Android. Please call the Alton Visitor Center at (800) 258-6645 with any questions.

Don’t miss out on this truly unforgettable experience!
