Description:
It’s time again to wave flags and shoot fireworks, dress in red, white, and blue, and celebrate liberty—but not on the 4th of July. No, in New Orleans we get a second chance-on July 14, for Bastille Day! In the city that is about as French as you get this side of the Atlantic, we do kit up right. The weekend of July 12-14, we’ve got it going on both in Bayou St. John and, of course, the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny.
The Alliance Française of New Orleans hosts the French Quarter event, starting with a Bastille Day Kick-Off Networking Cocktail at Dijon Restaurant on Friday, July 12, and ending with the always popular French Quarter Bartenders and Waiters Race through the French Market on Sunday, July 14. Can’t spill a drop in this race! There’s a “tumble” Saturday evening, July 13, starting at the 500 block of Frenchmen Street with the Pair-A-Dice Tumblers—bring your tambourine, of course, and anything else you can think of to make noise.
And a French Quarter walking tour from the Joan of Arc statute at Decatur and St. Philip Street to the Old U. S. Mint both Saturday and Sunday. While you’re at the Mint Saturday afternoon, you can hear all kinds of French-inspired music, enjoy French food and beverages from vendors, and let your kids run free in celebration! Sunday afternoon, there’s even a Picnic and Vintage French Car Show, free, at a location soon to be announced. There’s a lot going on, so check it all out on the website link above and book your overnight lodging at Southern Comfort Bed & Breakfast conveniently located in New Orleans!
From the Author: If you do go to the US Mint for music and food, take a few minutes to stroll through the Preservation Hall Exhibit on the second floor. You'll experience wonderful filmed interviews with some of New Orleans finest jazz musicians and take a walk through time with an incredible photo presentation of the history of jazz .
