Description:

The Log Cabin Restaurant is a mainstay in northern Lancaster County.  This is the place where locals go to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions.  It’s hosted celebrities from Paul Newman to Lady Gaga.  At the heart of the building is an old Log Cabin built in the 1800s.  Over the years, additions have been built all around, but the character of the property, with amazingly tall trees, sitting at the back of a completely residential neighborhood, remains.

The Log Cabin is open for dinner Tuesday – Thursday, from 5pm – 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 5pm – 10pm and Sunday from 4pm to 8pm.

One nice thing about the restaurant is the layout.  Because it’s made up of a number of additions, although it’s a large restaurant, it never feels like it.  Equally, on a slow night you don’t feel like you’re in a vast, empty space either.  The decor is charming and filled with special touches including great artwork, some of which are reproductions of masterpieces, painted by the previous owner of the restaurant.

The current co-owners, Linda and Dave Eshleman, met as employees of the restaurant.  Back in 2010 they teamed up with Kirk and Pam Liddell to re-open the Log Cabin which had shut down when the covered bridge leading to the property had to be closed for repairs (a casualty of Hurricane Agnes!).  The partners have invested a tremendous amount of money, energy and imagination into revitalizing the property.

While the character, location and decor of the Log Cabin are all amazing, none of it would mean a thing if the food didn’t taste (and look) great… and it DOES!  The chef is Culinary Institute trained.  The ingredients are all fresh and cooked to perfection.  The menu offers enough variety to be interesting, but not so much as to be overwhelming.  Equally good is the wine selection.  And most important of all…the service is fantastic.

From the Author: This is one of our favorite restaurants for celebrating our own special occasions, so of course it's one of the top places recommended by the Historic Smithton Inn for our guests as well! A special treat is that you have to drive through a covered bridge to get to this restaurant.
