Description:
The Ephrata Performing Arts Center delivers community theater at its very best. The theater is located in a historic barn in an Ephrata park, that was fully restored… although locals can tell you about the days when the venue had no heat or air conditioning, the audience had to use port-o-potties, and you could sometimes look out a window to see a performer changing outside between scenes! Those days are gone (thank goodness!), the theater is beautifully restored, including central heat & AC… and yes, indoor bathrooms!! But the theater retains some great memories from those early days, including visits by famous performers who did summer stock in Ephrata, including Betty White.
Today, EPAC (as they’re commonly known), has a reputation for putting on and pulling off edgy performances that sometimes shock and usually delight audiences. For example, who would imagine that a small (300 seat) theater in the heart of Lancaster County (think conservative Amish/Mennonite roots), would choose to perform Equis… and would deliver a performance that garnered rave reviews! But it’s not all about being “edgey”. EPAC puts on 7 shows a year which include musicals, plays and family shows like Annie Jr. and Seussical the Musical.
Check the website for the latest performance season schedule, and know that if a show is playing that you’ve wanted to see, this theater will do a good job performing it!
