Description:

Chickies Rock Park is a Lancaster County-owned park with over 420 acres of land to explore and enjoy.  The park closes at sunset.

There are a number of trails that you can hike and explore throughout the park area.  The most notable feature in the park is “Chickie’s Rock” and there is one particular overlook atop Chickies Rock with sweeping views of the Susquehanna River, the Borough of Marietta and the Borough of Columbia.

What’s nice about this hike is that you get a GREAT reward without having to put in a lot of effort.  The parking lot at the trail head is right along 441, about mid-way through the “park” if you’re looking at a map.  The trail itself is wide and basically flat.  There’s one spot pretty early on where you have the option to continue straight or take a turn that goes up-hill to the right.  The “turn” option will take you to a higher point and through a wooded trail area, and then it swings you right back around and rejoins the trail that went straight.  It’s a beautiful little segue but it IS more challenging with a steep stretch at the beginning that’s very loosely packed so your footing can be rough.

The main trail is very easy to walk along but it can be uneven in spots so just watch your footing or you could twist an ankle.  The main trail is relatively straight and easy to navigate & takes you right over to the “overlook”.  There are LOTS of “Danger” signs because you’re basically standing at the edge of a spectacular cliff, with views that are simply breath taking! So be careful… and ENJOY!

This is a place that many locals will come to have their engagement, graduation, or other special occasion photos taken.
