In business for 58 years, this is a seafood place like no other. An unassuming storefront at the head of a busy commercial fishing harbor, Captain Cass defies description. From the outside, its simple white clapboard edifice with hand-lettered sign bespeaks of home cooking with the emphasis on “home”.

Inside a smattering of tables covered in blue and white checked oil cloth linens and wobbly chairs takes you back to the 1950s when Captain Cass got its start, and pretty much nothing has changed since then. A chalkboard on the wall lists its offerings, mostly seafood, and corresponding pricing.

No credit cards here, please, just cash or a personal check. Friendly wait staff will take your order and bring you the freshest seafood, simply prepared, and plenty of it. Known for their lobster rolls and fried seafood, Captain Cass mastered the secret of success more than 50 years ago and learned early on not to mess with it. Open late June to mid-October, the building offers no heat and no air-conditioning, no phone and no website either, just great food. Plan on getting there early for lunch or dinner, as the place fills up quickly.
