Description:

Walking into the Cape Cinema is like traveling back to a much simpler time, a time before multiplexes and 3D, surround sound and digital cinema. Seeing a movie on the big screen at the Cape Cinema is an event not to be missed for the true film lover.

The white clapboard building sits on the same campus as the Cape Playhouse and the Cape Cod Museum of Art just off scenic Route 6A, the Old Kings Highway, in Dennis, Massachusetts. Designed by Alfred Easton Poor (of Wright Brother Monument fame) to resemble a local church, the interior is Art Deco-inspired as befits its 1930s origin. Be sure to look up as you enter the theater itself, as covering the entire surface of the curved ceiling is a mural depicting artist Rockwell Kent’s interpretation of celestial bodies and heavenly beings. It’s brilliant colors have faded since its heyday, but is nonetheless awe-inspiring.

The modern day theater offers first-run art films, live HD transmissions from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and the entire live season of the National Theater Company. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the Cape Cinema is a delightful way to spend a rainy day on Cape Cod, or a perfect spot for a date night.
