Description:
The 400 State Bike Trail is a 22 mile scenic route that passes through our diverse landscape with wetlands, rolling pastures, farmland and limestone outcroppings that form high cliffs in several areas along the trail. It follows the meandering Baraboo River and crosses eleven bridges along the way. Because of its diverse landscape you can see many different species of birds and animals. Deer, fox, turkey and raccoon are seen quite regularly and more rarely, bear and coyote. During the warm seasons you will find numerous examples of beautiful native Wisconsin wildflowers.
A unique feature is the 7 mile horse trail that parallels the bike trail between LaValle and Wonewoc.
For the more adventurous, the trail connects with the Elroy/Sparta Trail, LaCrosse River Trail and the Great River Trail for a total of 101 miles of riding.
This four season trail is open for snowmobiling in the winter.
