Description:

Built in 1912, Swannanoa Mansion is a stunning villa with a façade that looks to have come right from a dramatic book or movie. Its fascinating history begins with millionaire philanthropist James H. Dooley and his wife Salley Mae, who built the palace as a summer home in the style of the Villa Medici in Rome, Italy. Over the years, Swannanoa evolved from a private home to a country club to a rumored interrogation facility for the Navy.

This all sounds interesting, right? This is the sort of Swannanoa history that you have the opportunity of hearing at Waynesboro, Virginia’s “History Lecture: Swannanoa Palace.” Join Victoria Airisun Wonderli, photographer and author of “Swannanoa Palace: A Pictorial History, Its Past and People.” Ms. Wonderli, who is from Crozet, Virginia, captures the sights, history, and scenery surrounding Swannanoa Palace complete with old and new photos of the state, the biographies of past owners, and the stories of the mansion’s most fascinating visitors.

Don’t miss this lecture from the author herself!

From the Author: Swannanoa Palace had a wonderfully fascinating history, and Victoria Airisun Wonderli's book explores that history perfectly. From the photos to the biographic blurbs, you'll feel as though you're living through the past. Her lecture in Waynesboro promises to be as interesting and rewarding as her book is.
