Description:

Every Wednesday afternoon from 3:00pm – 7:00pm farmers meet in Meade Park to sell their produce, baked goods, cheeses, etc.

This is a great venue as there is a limited number of producers who are selling their wares.  Unlike the large City Market on Saturdays in Charlottesville VA, this is a more manageable number of booths to explore and find exactly what you are looking for.  Also, with the smaller number of producers and customers there you can actually spend some time talking with them about what they do, how they do it and sampling their offerings.

One favorite booth is The Rock Barn for their delicious pork products – recently we found them selling two cures of bacon: hickory smoke and maple applewood.  Both are excellent served for breakfast or in a sandwich.  For some of the best goat milk or cow milk cheese you must stop at Caromont Farms booth – Gail makes wonderful Farm Fresh cheeses mixed with herbs or jams.  And of course for some great produce there is Radical Roots, Belair Farms and several “Mom-n-Pop” farmers that have great greens, beets, corn, tomatoes, etc.

And as mentioned earlier you can actually talk with them about what they produce and how they produce it.  It is a really great urban farmer’s market!

From the Author: We love this market for buying produce, pork and cheese to use at Foxfield Inn (our bed & breakfast in Charlottesville, VA) for our guests' breakfast and evening socials. It is intimate and you really get to know the farmers and producers. We can't thank Charlottesville Parks & Recreation enough for offering an alternative to the busy City Market on Saturday mornings (at a time when we are busy here at Foxfield Inn). If you are staying with us and buy something at the market we will gladly keep it in the refrigerator for you until you leave.
