This tour is a truly wonderful way to see Lancaster County. The tour begins in Strasburg and heads south from there, to a part of the county where no one but the people who live there ever go… because there’s NOTHING there! No restaurants, no museums, no shops, no attractions… just idyllic Amish farms, one-room school houses and covered bridges!! This is the way to get out of the tourist frey and really appreciate the beauty that Lancaster County has to offer!
Tours are scheduled daily and go as long as the weather cooperates (fingers crossed for a WARM winter!!). You have to check the website for tour times because they vary, but typically are in the 10 am or 3 pm timeframe and last approximately 3 hours.
When taking a tour, plan to arrive 30 – 45 minutes ahead of your tour start time so you can fill out some paperwork and learn to ride the scooter. And DON’T be afraid, I’d never driven a scooter before and it was a breeze… if you have any balance or coordination at all you’ll be fine. If not, just find someone whose scooter you can ride on the back of…problem solved!!
Be sure to bring your camera with you, there is amazing scenery along this tour. Everything from rolling hills and farmlands to forests, and of course, some very cool covered bridges. You’ll also pass a number of one-room school houses. The good news – most of the traffic you encounter will be buggies, bikes and AMISH scooters! Enjoy!!!
From the Author: When Dave and I have friends visit from out of town, this tour is ALWAYS on the agenda, it's hands-down our favorite way to showcase Lancaster County! You're out of the tourist congestion, seeing the most beautiful sights around... with nothing between you and nature but your sunglasses! I've taken this tour three times now, and it never gets old!
