Description:
What would you do for your best friend? Would you build him or her a park?
Tucked away at the intersection of O and 20th is the Sonny Bono Memorial Park. Geary Simon, a D.C. real estate developer, was buds with Bono before his tragic skiing accident and wanted to honor the late singer by revitalizing a little 800 square-foot space.
The revitalization included a vault of the late singer’s memorabilia, an underground sprinkler system, a wrought-iron fence, and Kentucky bluegrass. The little benches are perfect for couples walking from downtown to DuPont to just sit down and take it easy after a date. The park is a simple little oasis among the hubbub of Northwestern D.C.
You might have forgotten that Bono was a politician, serving briefly as a Mayor of Palm Springs and then as a Representative in California. His park isn’t out of place in D.C. Check it out!
From the Author: Stop by this lovely little park for a quick breather during the hustle and bustle of D.C. life.
