Description:

In 1861 James Skinner started one of the Sierra Foothills first wineries. The Scotsman’s great-great-great grandson decided to resurrect the family tradition by starting a winery in Fair Play. Planting  vines, finding a winemaker and (like all businesses dealing with local government) fumbling their way through the permit process, Mike and Carrie Skinner found themselves to be proud owners of a functioning winery. Well, that’s only half the story. They found the perfect spot atop one of Fair Play’s dominate hills to build their winery and, more importantly, their tasting room. The proverbial “million dollar view” is simply a huge understatement. From the tasting room, upper deck and lower patio with a full outdoor kitchen the view is arguably the best view in Fair Play. The grounds surrounding the tasting room have outdoor fireplaces and a water feature that makes everyone stop in awe to soak in the beauty of the rock work and the great sounds of the waterfall and small creek.

You will want to bring a picnic so you can go to the lower level patio with a bottle of your favorite Skinner wine then find a cozy spot under the umbrella and take in the view for the next few hours. You will be compelled to linger a lot longer then you expected. We’ve all done it — spend a few hours instead of a little while on that patio enjoying the view and great wines.

From the Author: When Lucinda & I heard about Skinner Vineyards & Winery being built we knew there was going to be something special. Their location is a prime spot for any business, A tasting room was a perfect activity for that spot. What a view. We have taken some groups over to Skinner for lunch and everyone has had a great time marveling at the spectacular views. For almost 270 degrees you can see for miles and miles and miles. Oops. That's a song I remember from the past. It doesn't matter, it is a fact. Skinner has probably the best view in Fair Play.
