Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton provides visitors with the perfect opportunity to view the wide variety of birds that live in or migrate through the Riverbend area.

The Sanctuary is home to an array of waterfowl, shorebirds, and raptors to enchant birdwatchers of any age! The center is firmly committed to stewardship, recreation, and education.

Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary also houses the Audubon Center, featuring numerous of exhibits to educate visitors about local and migratory birds. Exhibits include different nests, food sources in Riverlands, and Mississippi flyway migration journeys.

The self-interpretive visitor center and museum clearly reflects the joint efforts of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Audubon Society to educate and excite visitors of all ages and from all walks of life. It presents in detail the ecological importance of the Central Flyway for migratory birds.

Encompassing a total of 3,700 acres and 8.5 miles of trail, the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary provides countless opportunities to experience the areas great wildlife. The trails feature viewing platforms and bird blinds and travel through marshes, prairies, and bottom-land forest habitats. Explore on your own, or take a guided tour with a naturalist.
