Description:
The occasion was very special to my heart. Long ago, 1963 to be exact, my sister and friend made her entrance into my world. You guessed it, the 50th birthday celebration.
Though Rezaz Restaurant & Wine Bar has had a presence in Asheville for quite some time, we had only been there twice before. It opened in Asheville in the Spring of 2002. So, on the day of the birthday off we go in search of a meal worthy of this fine celebration. We were not disappointed! We arrived in celebratory mode and both content and atmosphere of this dining experience guaranteed we stayed there. The interior main area is divided into two sections. One against the left wall where booths with chair counterparts offer seating. On the right side, more tables and the bar area. There is a fine wine list and cocktails are available. Large, colorful canvas prints hang on the muted walls behind the booth seating and wood tables. Colorful pendant lights suspended from above.
Lest I digress in reverie of the meal which was impeccably served & visually stunning as well as delicious I will relate our experience here. Everyone got apps because they looked so good we thought we might just enjoy a sampling of apps. We choose one each: Mediterranean Crisp Calamari, Flatbread Bruschetta with arugula, fresh grated mozzarella and tomato and Crispy Crab/Scallop Cake. Each one was presented fresh, hot and completely excellent deciding us to move on to the main entree.
There were several specials on the menu that evening as is usually the case at Rezaz. Chef Reza and his staff locally source whenever possible and the menu develops naturally by what is available. That night, a particular favorite and hence my selection of the evening- Striped Bass. It was cooked perfectly not over or under done and seasoned to perfection. Second choice: Lamb Shank coupled beautifully with garlic mashed potatoes. The birthday girl chose Seafood-Sausage Paella with succulent shrimp, marvelous mussels and an andouille sausage component that brought home just the right amount of spice finishing the dish perfectly.
