Description:

The Pickwick Restaurant and Pub in Duluth Minnesota is a landmark celebrating 100 years of history in 2014. The original woodwork and carvings in the restaurant tell a story of their own in the Old World Atmosphere.

The painted canvases in Pickwick’s Dutch Room are to be examined closely as they hide a five-fingered monk, a grasshopper commemorating the insect plague of 1873 and beer-brewing gnomes. The hogshead cask behind Pickwick’s bar carries a myth about a tap that once ran between the two buildings. Be sure to read the back of the menu to get the real story!

The establishment opened in 1914 at its present location. The bartender Joseph S. Wisocki borrowed $200 and bought the business in 1918 the year prohibition was enacted. In 1933, when prohibition was over, the city of Duluth celebrated at Pickwick and the Pub remained open 24 hours that day in December and they served more than 9000 people. A stein of beer only cost a nickel at that time.

The menu at Pickwick is extensive! Appetizers are delightful and the onion rings are not to be missed. Homemade soups and entrée salads are sure to delight. The classic entrees include shrimp, scallops, trout, walleye, Jambalaya, chicken, and whitefish. The Char-grill presents signature steaks, prime rib, chicken, salmon, ribs, kabobs and pork chops. The restaurant won a James Beard Foundation Award in 2007.

The setting is a perfect place to have a meal and enjoy a birthday, anniversary, vacation or any celebration.
