Description:

Nobska Light is an iconic lighthouse on the Cape Cod coastline, walking distance from the village of Woods Hole and facing the island of Martha’s Vineyard.  This lighthouse is much visited in the summer and for good reason — it is the best view around!  Sunrises and sunsets here are just breathtaking as the pinks, oranges, and yellows paint the sky and reach down to touch the water on the horizon.

Amazing on a warm summer’s eve, we recommend a visit during the spring or fall as you may be the only one enjoying the majestic view.  The history and importance of this lighthouse that guards against some of roughest currents in the world is quite interesting from it’s early incarnation during whaling times (when thousands of clipper ships passed by hear each year) to it’s present day use as the residence for the local Coast Guard commander.  You can find a plaque sharing more of this history in the modest parking lot (another reason to go in the slower season if you can).

This lighthouse has been made famous by the Falmouth Road Race, a seven mile run in the summer that draws international talent and is a qualifying race for the NYC Marathon among other things.  The image of 10,000 runners streaming past this amazing waterfront spot on a hot August day when shot from a helicopter is something to see and has inspired many to come visit this iconic site.

Looking for a great venue for an elopement? This is quite a popular spot for those “I Dos” — wind in your hair, gulls crying above you and the ferries to Martha’s Vineyard passing in the distance.  What a great way to start married life!
