Description:

Mississippi Mud Pottery in historic Downtown Alton is a shop like no other! Mississippi Mud showcases hand-created pottery, each piece made of stoneware clay. Each piece is beautifully crafted, yet functional for everyday use. Products for sale at Mississippi Mud include mugs, bowls, serving dishes, lamps, vases, and much more. All pieces are oven, microwave, dishwasher, and food safe.

Mississippi Mud Pottery was originally founded in 1983 by Ken and Brenda Barnett. They retired in 2006, and Felicia Breen and Chad Nelson bought the business and took over their work. Felicia and Chad continue Ken and Brenda’s tradition of hand-made functional pottery, but with the addition of many new things.

One thing that Mississippi Mud Pottery is known for is their ceramic fish. A very unique product, the ceramic fish is derived from an actual fish caught from the Mississippi. After the mold is created, clay is pressed into it to reproduce the appearance of the fish. The clay is then fired and glazed. Some are glazed to resemble a fish, others with more fun and artistic colorings.
