Mastroserio Winery is on a north facing slope in Fair Play on Granite Springs Rd. The address, though, is Fair Play Rd. As you drive up the gentle hill, on the left you will find this great boutique winery, Mastorserio Winery. Park in the lot that is below the grand patio under a gigantic oak tree. There you can enjoy a picnic, a bottle of wine or, at times, you may hear a jazz concert by the Mastroserio Combo. That is Ruggero Mastroserio and his friends. When the weather permits they play almost every Saturday and Sunday. Whenever the music is playing it is recommended you bring along a couple lawn chairs and a small table for your wine and food. You’ll be there a while enjoying the music and friendship.
Speaking of wine, Ruggero has a great selection of exquisite wines. Your choices are : Whites; Fiano (The only place this grape is grown in California is in the Central Valley in the Clarksburg area, just south of Sacramento.) and Sauvignon Blanc; Reds; Tempranillo, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. From time to time Ruggero does bring out some of his really special creations like Teroldego or Quartetto. The wines range in price from $18 – $70, with most averaging right at $28.
To relax under the tree, enjoy some music and sample some delicious wines at Mastroserio Winery be there Thursday through Monday 11:00 to 5:00pm. Try it, you’ll like it.
From the Author: Ruggero was the winemaker at Granite Springs Winery & Latcham Winery for years. He knew the time was right to venture into his own winery, then Granite Springs closed, which cinched his decision . I'm thankful he did make that venture and stay in Fair play to open his winery. He makes authentic Italian style wines, which are rich in flavor and full of robust aromas. We work close with Ruggero, as we send people to him frequently and he has us listed on his website and email blasts. Ruggero is one of those gentlemen you like at first sight; a friendly wide smile and very gracious.
