Description:

La Borimex is this great little Mexican Grocery Store / Restaurant, with seating inside as well as a cute covered porch out back.  They’re open Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 9 pm, Friday & Saturday from 10 am – 10 pm and Sunday from 12 noon – 8 pm.  The restaurant doesn’t have a liquor license, but they allow you to bring in your own alcohol/beer/wine.  They have bottled water, soda and other drinks that you can grab directly from the refrigerator.

The food at La Borimex is wonderful, amazingly so considering it’s not exactly the type of cuisine you think of when you think of Lancaster County.  The owners are from Mexico and own another local restaurant in Ephrata, so they  know their stuff.  Besides being fresh and delicious, the pricing is VERY reasonable, especially considering the portions.

A few years ago when they first opened La Borimex, the menu was pretty small and limited.  Since then it’s expanded tremendously to include all the traditional Mexican dishes you love.  Everything from tacos & tamales to enchiladas and burritos are on the menu, including combo platters!

One of my favorite dishes at La Borimex isn’t actually on the menu – fish tacos.  When I mentioned a craving for fish tacos one day, the waitress said, “NO PROBLEM!  We’ll make that for you!”.  That’s the picture at the top of this profile and they tasted as good as they look.  So if there’s something you’d like but don’t see it on the menu, don’t be afraid to ask.

From the Author: We LOVE Mexican food. We moved to Lancaster County from TX, where we lived for 20+ years, so we can recognize good, authentic Mexican food when we find it and we definitely found it at La Borimex!!! One bit of personal advice for this place is this - unlike most other Mexican restaurants, they don't just bring you out a basket of chips and salsa automatically, you have to order it. And when you think "what on earth is taking them SO long to bring me my chips", remember this... they're making them FRESH for you!!! These chips aren't just something to hold you over while you're waiting for your food... they're heaven-on-earth, hot, thick, crunchy chips that are definitely worth the wait!! My only other advice is to recognize that this is an authentic Mexican Restaurant.. not TEX-MEX... so you might not see some of the items you're used to seeing on the menu. (like the fact that the tacos are all soft shells, not crispy ones and the beef is sliced steak, not ground beef!).
