Description:

This 100 acre horticultural garden is home to magnificent flowering plants and shrubs, nature trails, three museums celebrating American culture, a Maze Garden, a Labyrinth, and a two-story tree house overlooking Hidden Hollow where New England’s first certified nature classroom is located.

The automobile museum is located in a replica round Shaker barn. It houses one of the country’s finest collections of antique American cars. The American Art and Carousel Gallery houses a 1908 antique, hand-carved carousel on which you can take spin. The third museum houses special exhibitions.

There is an herb garden, a windmill, an outdoor stage where concerts are held, and a flume fountain that is 208 feet long where water flows and falls 26 feet down to a pool in the day lily garden.

On weekends from Thanksgiving through mid December Heritage Museums & Gardens celebrates the holidays season with “Gardens Aglow”. Patrons stroll lighted paths, enjoy musical performances, ride the Holiday Carousel, and have an opportunity for a photo with Santa in the Model T at the auto museum.

From the Author: My husband and I have a membership here and love attending all of the events and exhibits. We go there often in the early afternoon during the summer months to stroll through the gardens, see new exhibits, and get a bite to eat at the outdoor Magnolia Café. The blend of flowering plants and sea air is intoxicating. Visits during the holidays fill you with the spirit of the season.
