Description:
The door is open from 11am to 9pm Sunday – Thursday and 11am to 10pm Friday and Saturday at Haab’s restaurant in downtown Ypsilanti, Michigan.
It was first opened in 1934, by Otto and Oscar Haab, and today the owners are father and son, Mike and David Kabot who take pride in maintaining the quality and style of this restaurant. In many ways the building has retained the look of another era. In the first of the three dining rooms, there are pressed tin ceilings and walls along with the massive 30 foot African mahogany bar. The other two dining rooms were added by expanding into two adjacent store fronts. It makes an imposing sight on that side of the street. There is a parking lot located just around the corner on Huron Street, and some on street parking on the next block.
Their reputation was built on their menu of dry aged USDA Prime Beef, especially the thick cut New York Strip Sirloin steak. But the Prime London Broil is also the most popular. The Michigan Lake Superior Whitefish, which is prepared in many delectable ways, is not to be missed. After you are seated, you can expect a loaf of piping hot bread and honey butter to appear on the table about the same time you beverages arrive.
Needless to say, Haab’s has a full bar with beer, wines and drinks made to order. The daily dessert menu always offer a freshly made cheesecake, pie as well as seasonal favorites like strawberry shortcake.
From the Author: I have enjoyed many wonderful meals and happy occasions at this restaurant. The last was a surprise birthday dinner planned for me by my husband with all my family members included. Its location offers a very convenient dining experience for our guests.
