Description:

The Evergrain Bread Company in Chestertown is well worth a stop when visiting Chestertown. They offer fancy coffee, hand crafted bread, scones, muffins, croissants and sandwiches. It is the new gossip central of this small historic town since Scottie’s Shoe Store closed. Folks can be found early in the AM meeting, reading a newspaper or a tablet and starting the day with a great cup of coffee, latte, espresso or whatnot. The pastry selection is sophisticated and delicious. For lunch they offer a wide variety of sandwiches and hot or cold soups depending on the season. During the warm months and weather permitting, shaded out-door seating is available on the wide brick sidewalk.

Douglas Rae, the young head baker and owner of the Evergrain Bread Company is a graduate of Johnson and Wales. He opened his shop on High Street in Chestertown in 2010 and expanded in 2011.

Chestertown is a small historic town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It is not too far from the Baltimore-Washington Corridor but just far enough to be removed from the hustle and bustle.  The town is located on the banks of the majestic Chester River and has the second largest collection of 18th century homes in the state of Maryland. It is the home of Washington College, a small liberal arts college founded in 1782.

From the Author: When I feel the need to indulge I head to the bakery. It takes me at least five minutes to choose one of the pastries with my latte. I usually end up with a chocolate croissant. It should really be called "un petit pain au chocolat", they are as good as anything you can find in Paris, France.
