Description:

High atop one of the highest hills in Fair Play sets a boutique winery owned by John Alexander, Colibri Ridge Winery & Vineyard. John prefers to have his place called Colibri Ridge. Colibri Ridge is literally on the cutting edge. The tasting room was cut into the side of solid rock by using dynamite to blow away enough rock for construction. That happened one foot at a time. All of Fair Play could hear the blasting. It was the talk of the area while it was going on.

Colibri Ridge serves a great selection of 5 whites and 13 reds. One of his more fun, colorful wines is his Fair Play Rufus Red, named after his black Lab.  It’s a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah that makes you wanting more. It truly is liquid gold, as El Dorado County likes to say about the wines of El Dorado. John has two fantastic white dessert wines. One is a Chardonnay and the other is a Viognier. Both have an excellent nose and a full body with a rich fresh taste.  John has a light, fresh Syrah Rose that is to die for.

Colibri Ridge has spectacular views of Fair Play hills. Large mature oak trees and granite outcroppings make the setting picturesque for a quiet afternoon of wine tasting and a picnic lunch. Colibri Ridge is open 11-5 Friday through Sunday.  Come to Colibri Ridge to enjoy the birds. That’s a hint about the name Colibri Ridge.

From the Author: John Alexander is a great neighbor and he makes great wines. He helps us with our Murder in Fair Play mystery games we have at the Inn. John has told the characters that have gone to his winery during the game that he has been a Federal Agent in his prior life. He knows something about all our "victims." He adds a lot of enjoyment and meaning to the mystery weekends. He has on many occasions poured his wine at our Inn during our hospitality hour. Everyone loves John and his wines. He just looks like a good ole winemaker.
