Description:

This is a wonderful place to be immersed into the culture of the Amish and to learn more about them – at the Amish Farm & House located on 15 picturesque acres along the historic Lincoln Highway. Deeded in 1715, this track of land was given by William Penn. Over the years, it has been farmed by Quakers, Mennonite and Amish farmers. The farmhouse was the first Amish heritage site opened to the public in the Lancaster area about 60 years ago to reflect the history and customs typical of the Amish people.

Here at this location, you can be given a tour of the historic 1805 farmhouse by guides who are knowledgeable about the Amish lifestyle. Many of them grew up in Lancaster County among the Amish and are personal friends so have firsthand experiences with them. You can take their 45 minute tour of the farmhouse and see displays of their clothing and learn more about their unique customs. The kitchen is furnished in the simple lifestyle of an Amish family. Here you can have your questions answered about the Old Order Amish lifestyle.

You can also visit the barn or barnyard where you will see many of the animals – sheep, cows, goats, chickens and more. And for the kids, there are activities for them as well. They can see Buttercup – the cow, try the woodcarver’s games, take a scooter run, pet the animals, or play on the playground.

A 90-minute countryside bus tour is also available through the back roads of the county. You’ll learn about the history of the area, see buggies, farmland vistas, and perhaps stop at a roadside stand to see the Amish culture up close.
