Description:
Begin your trip at 4:00 pm on Halloween at The Lion and the Rose Bed and Breakfast where you may obtain a self-guided walking tour map of the Montford Historic District and its famous Riverside Cemetery. The tour will take you through a neighborhood of 100 year old homes – some of which will be decorated for Halloween. One of the tour sites is the empty lot where the psychiatric hospital once stood where Zelda Fitzgerald died in a fire.
Riverside Cemetery is the final resting place of many notable residents: the writers Thomas Wolfe and O’Henry – to name a few. It has beautiful rolling hills and great mountain views. End your tour back at The Lion and the Rose. Depending on when you return, you can help the innkeepers finish decorating or you can begin handing out treats on the front porch to 200+ neighborhood kids.
Costumes are optional – but welcome.
Bring your smart phone, charged and ready to go, so you can easily learn more about each stop on the way. We encourage you to download the Field Trip App either from Google Play or the App Store in advance of the event.
Each attendee that shares their photos on Twitter, Facebook or Google+ from this event, and includes the appropriate #hashtags provided on the Walking Tour Map, will be entered in a drawing to win a Free Night Stay in the Margaret Grace Room at The Lion and the Rose Bed and Breakfast.
* Subject to availability.
Other Field Trip day door prizes will also be given to a lucky few that pre-register and attend our event at: lionandrose.eventbrite.com
