Description:

In beautiful Hyde Park, NY the Vanderbilt Mansion stands on 211 acres of park land. Spend the day at the park exploring the mansion and grounds that reflect the history of the United States through the “gilded” age. There are beautiful vistas of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains as well as the beautiful formal gardens.  The winding paths through the estate total approximately 3 miles of paved, pebble, and dirt walkways and takes about 2 hours to complete at a moderate pace. The tour of the mansion includes about 100 steps and includes tours of the basement, first, and second floor. The tour of the mansion takes about one hour. Pack a picnic lunch to eat on the scrolling lawns while minding the park’s carry in-carry out policy that helps to keep the park beautiful and spotless for other visitors to enjoy.

The grounds and mansion are accessible. Visitors who require assistance can call ahead to check availability as the elevator in the mansion is small and was initially installed circa the 1930’s and requires frequent servicing. Please keep in mind that baby carriages, strollers, infant carriers, backpacks and flash photography not allowed on the tour of the mansion.

For 2014, the grounds and gardens are free and open every day from sunrise to sunset. The mansion is open daily  for  guided tours only, with the final tour at 4pm. Admission to the mansion is $10 per person; children under 15 are free. The mansion is closed Thanksgiving , Christmas, and New Years Day.

From the Author: Access to the grounds is free. Admission to the mansion is $10.
