Description:
An evening of learning and exploration at the Tweed Museum of Art at the University of Minnesota Duluth is known as a Tweevening. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. is the next tweevening not to miss.
The painting known as the “Portrait of an Elderly Lady” done by Dutch artist Michael Janszoon Van Miereveld in 1628 has been in the Tweed Museum of Art’s collection and was badly in need of restoration. The 400-year-old piece needed to be restored to its original beauty and the conservator from the Midwest Art Conservation Center will speak about that restoration process at this Tweevening event.
The frame of the original painting needed updating also. The painting was mounted in a anachronistic frame which was the 17th century Dutch method. A frame technician from the Minneapolis Institute of Art was entrusted with that restoration and will discuss the research and process of his restoration work and final product. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions after the presentations.
The tweevening takes takes place at the Tweed Museum or Art on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. It is free and open to the public. There is free parking.
