Description:

“Everything’s coming up roses…”

It’s a classic Stephen Sondheim musical, complete with vaudeville acts, show-stopping tunes, and a look inside struggles and hardships of show business in the early 1920s. “Gypsy” is based on the memoirs of burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, and you have the opportunity to enjoy an upcoming local production of this fantastic musical.

ShenanArts, a Staunton-based community theatre, will be presenting their production of “Gypsy,” opening February 21, 2014 and running through March 2, 2014. The shows will run Friday and Saturday evenings, starting at 7 P.M. with 3 P.M. matinee shows on Sundays.

Watch as young sisters Baby June and Louise grow up under their overbearing stage mother Rose. Enjoy their humorous frustration in the classic number “If Mama Was Married” as well as Mama Rose’s unstoppable pride in “Rose’s Turn.” From tap-dancing to burlesque numbers, ShenanArts’ “Gypsy” will definitely entertain you.

Directed by Hank Fitzgerald

ShenanArts is about a twenty minute drive from the Iris Inn, so book your room, and get ready for some theatrical enjoyment!

From the Author: We're lucky to have a great local theatre community, and ShenanArts definitely puts on some excellent shows, and Gypsy promises to be wonderful. (Of course, we may be a bit biased, since our former housekeeper/current social media manager is playing the title role!)
