Description:

Now in its 34th year, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire continues to grow, entertain and amaze.  The Faire (as the locals call it) runs from 11 am – 8 pm every weekend from August 2nd to October 26th.

If you’ve never been to a Renaissance Faire before, you’re in for a real treat.  On the 90 acre grounds of the Mt. Hope Winery, they’ve essentially built an amazing replica of an old English hamlet including narrow streets lined with Tudor-style shops, indoor and outdoor stages where a theatrical scenario plays-out throughout the day, along with other ongoing entertainment like magicians, jugglers, sword swallowers and the like.  There are historically accurate elements to the day like glass blowing and sword forging demonstrations and archery through the ages.  But honestly, while the history is “nice”, it’s the entertainment that’s AWESOME!  Not to be missed are the Human Chess Match and the Ultimate Joust.

A new addition to the Faire this year are all the “asterisk shows” that are geared for adults-only.  These shows aren’t suited to children (nippers) because of the topics posed or the content of the jokes delivered…they’re typically PG-13 in nature… with maybe a little bit of an R rating thrown in.

An overview of the Faire wouldn’t be complete without talking about the FOOD & DRINK!  There are a number of Taverns where you can find Mt. Hope Wine or Swashbuckler Beer.  And food options abound… everything from Turkey Legs and Roasted Corn to Pizza and Burgers.

From the Author: Any time you combine entertainment, food and beer/wine for us, we're likely to be a fan... which is the case with Ren Faire! If you're planning a weekend trip to Lancaster County, Sunday is a good day to set aside for the Faire since all the "Amish" attractions will be closed. We've never gotten dressed up for the Faire, but lots of our friends (and other Faire visitors) dress to the nines and really immerse themselves in the whole Faire experience! If you don't have any period clothes, not to worry, there are lots of shops at the Faire where you can acquire the appropriate wardrobe for a Wench, Pirate, Knight or Princess!
