Description:

Have you ever seen a whale jump out of the water (BREECH)? It is one of the most spectacular visuals in the world. The Pacific Life Insurance Company commercial shows a large Grey whale breeching and it is their logo. Few humans get to see such an event. Maybe, just maybe, you can be one of those lucky ones when you take your whale watching cruise out of Newport Beach to see a blue whale or dolphins breech before your eyes. From early summer through September the whales migrate both directions along the Southern California coastline. With the warm waters along the Newport Beach coast line the whales like to get close and on rare occasions you might see a whale from the shore.

Taking Newport Landing Whale Watching cruises is the best way to get close enough to take some great pictures of whales. The large, magnificent animals are truly a wonder to watch. A two hour cruise will give you an experience of a lifetime. On July 18, 2014 the Newport Landing Whale Watching cruises spotted 10 Blue Wales, 350 Common Dolphins and 40 Bottlenose Dolphins. So far this 2014 season they have seen 1,148 Grey Whales, 91 Blue Whales, 36 Fin Whales, 4 Humpback Whales and 50 Minke Whales. Let’s see: that totals 1,329 whales for the season. Don’t you think you’d have a good chance to see one?

From the Author: I've been whale watching, up close and personal. I've seen a big Grey breech while Lucinda and I were on the balcony of our cruise ship. The header photo is one I took while on an excursion where we didn't see any whales breech but we did see tales and blows. Newport Beach is one of those fabulous places to visit. Fashion Island, Newport Pier, Balboa Island and of course the drive along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) with the car dealerships selling great named cars: Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Bentley, Lotus, Ferrari. You won't find Hondas, Fords or Chevys along this world famous beach drive. Lucinda and I went to the Fashion Island Shopping Center frequently when we lived in South Coast Metro for a few years before moving back to Northern California. We'd shop, have lunch and sit in the open court yards and do our planning for Lucinda's Country Inn B&B; a great place to stay during your visit to Northern California's Gold Country in Fair Play, CA
