Halloween is a festive time in New England and nearby destinations like Salem, Massachusetts receive a lot of attention. However, you do not have to travel outside of downtown Boston, or even the South End for that matter, to enjoy all the excitement of Halloween. The South End is known for having a dense collection of historic, Victorian Townhouses and it is this collection of homes that have trick-or-treaters from all over the city vying to collect candy from its owners.
The children show up in the thousands, escorted by parents & their friends. Imagine being a child in the city of Boston and having access to so many homes and so much candy. Trick-or-treat usually starts around 4:30 or 5:00 PM and goes into early sundown. While the adults get to appreciate all the fun costumes the children are wearing, the children are not the only ones in costume. Many neighbors will get dressed up as well as deck out their homes.
The children are amazed by the large townhouses, many of which are transformed into haunted houses or feature some form of Halloween attraction. The event provides family fun for those traveling to the neighborhood, while the locals enjoy the sight from their high steps, where they are perched with refreshments. Halloween is a fun time of year to enjoy the few remaining days of beautiful fall weather & colors.

The residents take pride in offering a fun, safe & exciting place for the city's children to do trick or treat. The neighhorhood police monitor the streets and even close some to traffic to ensure there is added safety for the evening. Anyone who has experienced trick or treat for Halloween in the South End, knows the there is a fun spirit in the air.
