Description:

On New Year’s Eve, individuals all over the United States will be ringing in 2015 with First Night celebrations, and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is no different, so mark your calendars, bundle up in your winter clothing, and prepare to venture out into the streets of Harrisonburg, VA for a night of family-friendly fun.

So, what is First Night exactly? According to Wikipedia, First Night, which was first introduced in 1975, “celebrates a community’s local culture, often featuring music, dance, comedy, art, fireworks and, in some cities, ice sculptures and parades.”

Harrisonburg’s First Night will feature fantastic live performers with everything from bluegrass to a high school/college student ensemble to Acoustic-Americana tunes. You and your kids can venture down the streets and investigate the Explore More Discovery Museum, the Rhythm Playground, puppet shows, magic shows, and planetarium exhibitions. And of course, the evening will end with an incredible display of fireworks.

Sounds like a great way to usher in the New Year, doesn’t it? All you have to do is buy a button ($8 for adults and free for children 5 and under), and you’re good to go.

Happy New Year!
