Description:

The Chestertown Jazz Festival promises to be once again a terrific event.

Headliners will be acclaimed jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut and Sue Matthews, a much loved and admired local jazz and blues vocalist.

Cyrus Chestnut is a native of Baltimore who started his music career at 5 years of age playing in church. He went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory and graduated from the prestigious Berklee School of Music. In the past he has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea and Freddie Hubbard.

Chestnut will be offering a free jazz piano work shop at 10:30 am on Saturday September 7th, at the Garfield Center for the Arts at 210 High Street in Chestertown.

Once again, the first 100 Jazz enthusiasts arriving at Wilmer Park will be treated to a free continental breakfast in Wilmer Park. The park will open its doors at 10:30 am. The 100 Voice Choir of Kent County will open the show with a soulful presentation of gospel music at 11:30 am.

As part of the celebration, Chester RiverArts is partnering with the Garfield Center for the Arts, and the Jazz Festival, and will feature its annual “Art in the Park” event throughout the day. 50 local artists, jewelry makers, photographers and potters will be sharing the waterfront park with the Jazz Festival.

From the Author: We love the intimate nature of this festival. Wilmer Park is Chestertown's only a public waterfront park on the edge of the Chester River. Folks bring lawn chairs and blankets and picnics and sit under the tent or on the grass to enjoy a full day of fantastic music.
