Description:

The 31st annual Jefferson Texas Candlelight Tour of Homes offers some first time only houses this year.

The tour of homes during Candlelight is like no other around. These houses are lived in by real people who love and cherish the homes history and lineage. In fact most of the folks in Jefferson know a lot about the people who lived in them from the beginning. That alone can be a huge undertaking.

Once the owners agree to be on the tour I imagine that the planning begins months before it’s time to actually decorate. Each house is decorated in live greenery, period decorations and of course lit candles. Every year I am amazed, that not only are there historic features but that the personal treasures all seem to fit together perfectly too.  One of my favorite rooms in each home is the dining room. They are always set with all the finer things, some have embroidered napkins or crystal stemware, those little touches that today we don’t often use but rather put away in the cupboard for someday. I have to say that seeing a table set to the nines is awe-inspiring.

An interesting little fact about two of the homes on tour this year is that they were once owned by twin sisters. One of these houses is one of those craftsman style homes built in the 1930’s using rocks that you see scattered around town.

This year there is a house that is a total twist on the style of homes in the past. It is being called the Baby Boomer Retro house and it is going to be fun! This house is going to be decorated in a style keeping in that time period. I am excited to see the faces on people who may remember the Christmas treasures of the time. Heck even the people who are in charge of decorating the home have been collecting items they remember to use as decorations and I can tell you they light up when they share what they have collected to display.

Also during the two weekends of the Candlelight Tour of Homes there will be Christmas Music presented at the First United Methodist Church, the Enchanted Forest of decorated Christmas trees, a play at the Jefferson Playhouse, the annual Christmas Parade and the Rail of Lights Christmas train rides.

You can pre-purchase tickets now at the website link above.

Make sure you have a great place to stay while experiencing all the Christmas Spirit Jefferson has to offer; book your lodging early at the White Oak Manor Bed and Breakfast, conveniently located to the tour in Jefferson Texas.

From the Author: I am most excited to see the Rock House and the Baby Boomer House. What a contrast in traditional decorating that will be. Make sure to spend some time roaming around town shopping at one or all of our many antique shops, you might just find the perfect Christmas gift to take home.
