Description:

Windwalker Vineyards’ tasting room is big, roomy and the sky is painted on the ceiling for that fresh airy feeling. Tile floors keep the room clean and sparkling. The tasting bar is just a few feet inside the front entrance for ease of getting into your tasting position. Hooks are along the underside of the bar for purses, coats, etc. Even as you are walking in the door there is a smiling face welcoming you to Windwalker. Behind the bar is where they keep the bottles for you to select from. All throughout the tasting room is beautiful, unique merchandise available for gifts or mementos of your trip. They have a large deck just outside the tasting room so you can enjoy nice weather with a glass of wine or a picnic lunch.

Windwalker accomplished the first ever for the Sierra Foothills: in 2011 they earned the California Golden Bear for their 2008 Primitivo: AKA Shady Lady. The first Golden Bear for any Sierra Foothills winery. The Golden Bear Award is given to the “Best of Show” in California. That year Windwalker was rated the 3rd best winery in California. In more recent years Windwalker earned the 2012 Best of California and Best of Class for the 2009 Cabernet Franc and Best of Region and Best of Class for the 2009 Mourvedere. In 2013 their 2010 Sangiovese garnered the Best Of California Sangiovese and Best of Region.

Daily Windwalker serves 16 reds, 5 whites and 5 ports for your enjoyment.

From the Author: On September 22,2013 we had a couple from Australia stay at the Inn. She wanted to know if there were bears in the area. I said only one, the Windwalker Golden Bear. Windwalker Vineyards is just a mile and a half from our Inn. We have been going there for a very long time: in the 1980’s it was founded and called L.W. Richards. It became Windwalker Vineyards and Winery it sold a couple of time before Jim and Alanna Taff, the current owners, bought it in 2006. We have been wine club members all that time. During the third owner’s rign a bright young winemaker came on board, Dominic Mantei. This was his first position as winemaker. Prior to that he was assistant winemaker. I knew immediately he would develop into a great winemaker. With the Windwalker awards over the last few years my impression proved right.
