Description:

Something that most folks don’t expect to find on Cape Cod is a vineyard. Located just off Route 6 in Truro is the appropriately named Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod.

What had once been a farm known for growing some of the best cantaloupe, would later prove to have the perfect soil for growing grapes. The first vines were planted in 1991 and the vineyard opened in 1992. The current owners, the Roberts family, bought the working vineyard in 2007 and it is today a family business.

Currently, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc grapes are grown on the 5-acre farm. At harvest time, the grapes are picked by hand. Since 2004, Hungarian born Matyas Vogel has been the winemaker at Truro Vineyards.

Starting Memorial Day and until Columbus Day, you can take a guided tour of the vineyards, participate in a wine tasting, and visit the vineyard gift shop. During the summer months, Wednesdays are for Wine, Art, Appetizers, and Music. Local chefs, artists, and musicians are featured on the grounds of the vineyard. Other music and art events take place at the vineyard throughout the summer. The schedule of events and ticket availability are listed on their website.

From the Author: We love wine and enjoy visiting Truro Vineyards when we are in that area. The tastings are run by knowledgeable folks in their pavilion set among the grape vines. The setting is beautiful and the tastings are great fun. I particularly like their Cabernet Franc. I also love the unique lighthouse wine bottle that some of their wines are sold in. A visit here is such fun.
