Description:

Celia Lux and Nancy Dunk have owned and operated The Bookery for 30 years. They celebrated that anniversary September 1st. In historic downtown Placerville there are few businesses that have been around 30 years. True the buildings go back to the California Gold Rush which makes Historic Main St. a treasure trove for history buffs. Even if you don’t know much about California history you will after you the walk the streets of Placerville. Not only are there lots of signs pointing out history; all the business owners and workers can share lots of history.

You want history? The Bookery is the place to hangout for an afternoon. History books, books on historical people and events, books from a bygone era, authors from yesteryear and books of every kind you would ever want. In fact, Nancy Dunk likes to say, “I have 370,00 books, give or take 10,000; at any one time.” I dare you to count them.

The Bookery provides a book search service and is part of the Motherlode Information. On Mondays and Fridays they buy books or by appointment at other times. The community is really supportive of this used book treasure chest. Lots of people will drop off their old paperbacks for The Bookery to sell. Sometimes Celia or Nancy will swap books if the right deal is reached.

They are open to sell the paperback and hardcovers Monday through Thursday 10-5:30pm; Friday and Saturday 10 – 7pm and Sunday 10 – 4pm. What a great place to find your “new” favorite book.

From the Author: Lucinda & I have been frequent visitors to The Bookery. Lucinda loves mysteries and The Bookery seems to always have a good supply of them by almost every author who has ever written a mystery. When our grandson was young we came to look for the Richard Scary books. We found several. Since we now have a granddaughter in the third grade we have found several books for her. We'll bring books from Lucinda's Country Inn to drop off or trade and we are never disappointed in our dealings with Celia & Nancy.
