Description:

Sugarbush opened for the 2013-14 Season on November 23rd. The resorts has two interconnected hills referred to as Lincoln Peak and Mt Ellen, and across the two there are 111 trails and 16 lifts—4 of them being high speed quads.

One of the great things about Sugarbush is that it is usually less crowded with shorter lift lines than other ski areas, while offering some of the best and most varied skiing in the north east. There are runs for all skill levels, including terrain parks for the riders, and a dedicated area called Castlerock for the most ambitious double black diamond enthusiasts!  Castlerock also happens to the name of the pub at the Lincoln Peak base, offering a wide variety of beers and snacks, and often live music aprés ski. There are many other places for a quick lunch at the two bases and part way up both hills.

There are many options for deals on lift tickets.  Season passes are ideal for frequent skiers of course, but for visitors coming for just a few days check the Ski & Stay Passports offered by many of the local Inns and B&Bs. Note that Sugarbush offers attractive deals for skiers 29 and under.  It also has a renowned ski school, with a great “never-ever” program for first time skiers and riders, that includes lessons, rentals and lift passes—and if you take the full three day course you will be rewarded with a pass for the rest of the current season.

From the Author: I have always enjoyed skiing, and it is marvelous to now live right beside a major ski resort. Just being able to slip out for a few hours on the slopes on a gorgeous winter day is a real privilege. I usually ski at Mt Ellen as it has a wide variety of intermediate trails and tends to be less crowded.
