Description:
The Strasburg Railroad is a privately owned enterprise whose history dates back to 1832. The railroad has a rich commercial history, but made the transition to tourism back in 1958. In 2008 the Strasburg Railroad marked their 50th anniversary as a tourist railroad.
The railroad operates a 10 mile section of track between Strasburg and Paradise on weekends from February – early March, Daily from late March – November, Weekends and select weekdays during November and December. Check the website for complete details.
There are a number of experiences to choose from aboard the Strasburg Railroad. You can ride in a regular passenger car, or if you’d like a bit more luxury (Air Conditioning in the summer!), a first-class car is available. There are a number of special events on the railroad too, including Murder Mystery rides, themed lunch or dinner trains, and wine & cheese outings.
Back in the station there’s plenty of fun as well. You can ride the pint-sized “Pufferbelly”, operate a crank car or pump car, dine in the station cafe or buy some great railroad related goodies in the gift shop or take a behind the scenes tour of the railroad’s mechanical shop.
And while you’re here you should definitely make time for a tour of the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and the Choo Choo Barn… both great attractions for train lovers… and who’s not a train lover?!
