I was stunned at the mountain view! Stinson Vineyards is a charming small boutique winery in Whitehall, Virginia (near Charlottesville)  with a view toward Pasture Fence Mountain (part of the Blue Ridge) that will amaze you — and this is before you ever walk in the door!  The next thing that will amaze you is how much you enjoy tasting their award-winning wines.

Jeff and his daughter, Rachel, grow the grapes and produce excellent wine on a small scale including  Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tannat.  They have been producing wine for several years with carefully selected grapes from local vineyards and 2013 will be their first harvest year from which they will produce wine from their own grapes.

The tasting room has a charming small farm store atmosphere offering Stinson’s small batch specialty wines and local products including Timbercreek Organics meat, Free Union Grass Farm chicken, free range organic eggs, local produce, and garden fresh herbs.

Just outside the tasting room is a charming patio with, of course, that stunning view to the mountains. On Thursday nights in spring and summer (until October harvest time) they provide bar-b-que grills and space for you to grill your hotdogs and hamburgers and have a picnic — and of course, all the fun is accompanied by the live entertainment of local musicians.
