Silverback Distillery in Afton, VA is the area’s newest alcoholic endeavor, and it also happens to be a unique departure from the wineries and breweries. Owned and run by Christine Riggleman and Denver Riggleman III, Silverback brings a “spirited” addition to Route 151.
In case you’re wondering, the name “silverback” comes from the term for an adult, male gorilla who rules his nest, which also happens to be the slogan of the distillery. Silverback’s primate-themed spirits include a tantalizing assortment of vodka, gin, whiskey, and bourbon. Try the sweet, flavorful winter wheat and grains of the Beringei Vodka or the traditionally distilled Strange Monkey Gin. In a little while you’ll be able to treat your taste buds to Blackback Whiskey, Blackback Bourbon, and Blackback White Whiskey, which, when consumed, “results in chest thumping and general euphoria.”
