A gastropub, taken from the word “gastronomy” is defined as a “licensed bar that serves good-quality food.” That’s what you’ll get at Salt’s. From the outside, the building doesn’t look like much. It’s reminiscent of something you might see at the Jersey shore. Inside, the decor is both rustic and eclectic – distressed wooden floors, old oak bar, a metallic subway door, old license plates and a sign for the E train – but don’t be fooled, it’s far from a dive. The menu is both varied and innovatively prepared, and the beer and Irish whisky selections will satisfy even the most discriminating palates.

The house hamburger comes with three delicious and interesting sauces: beer braised onions, sriracha aioli and sun dried tomato aioli. DIY fish tacos come with jasmine rice, fresh salsa, shredded cheese, lettuce, sour cream and a flour tortilla with chef’s choice of fish. Exceptionally hungry? Pecan-crusted salmon served with mashed sweet potatoes is just the ticket.

All soups, salads and desserts are made with only the freshest ingredients, and each day there is a different creamy risotto on the menu prepared according to the chef’s whim.

Service is good, and on the weekends there is live music. While reservations are not required, they’re certainly recommended, because Salt gets very busy on Friday and Saturday.
