The location of the Portland Malt Shoppe used to be known as Portland. Duluth and Portland merged their villages at the turn of the century. The historic building was originally a gas station and then a small dress boutique. In 1989 the Portland Malt Shoppe was opened and today it is one of Duluth’s busiest ice cream stores in the busy summer season.

Choose your favorite sundae, malt, ice cream cone, or float with your choice of ice cream and toppings. The list of ice cream flavors is long and the line of customers is usually long too. The view of Lake Superior while you wait is totally awesome!

After you enjoy your ice cream treat at a picnic table or bench at the ice cream shop, you can go down some stairs and walk along Lake Superior on Duluth’s famous lake walk to work off all the calories from your delicious treat.
