Located on Ocean Avenue in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea between Lincoln St. & Monte Verde St. this award winning restaurant features four distinct dining atmospheres and one incredible menu.  In Italian, “Portabella” means beautiful door –  in Carmel-by-the-Sea,  it’s a door well worth crossing.  

You can choose alfresco dining in the front of the restaurant among the flower gardens that have win the Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden award several consecutive years.  This is a great place to people watch, with or without your pooch, right on Ocean Avenue.  Relax inside the front room, warmed by a lovely corner fireplace with free standing tables to accommodate the party size of your choosing.  You may prefer the middle room with low ceiling and cozy banquettes.  Finally, the back atrium garden room features a fountain, ferns and fresh flowers; which is perfect for pet guests on cooler days or evenings.

The menu features flavors from around the globe: local Monterey Sand Dabs with lemon caper, tomato, green beans and mashed potatoes; Duck & Feta Ravioli with sun dried tomatoes, sage & romano cheese; classic favorites such at Bisto Filet Mignon with red pepper polenta, demi glace and fresh vegetables; and Coq au Vin in a pinot noir sauce.  Succulent salads at lunch, as shown here, include Seared Scallops, Prawns & Citrus Salad, Warm Chicken Salad with organic greens, nectarine & walnuts, Salade Nicoise, and Seared Rare Tuna.  But don’t forget about dessert.  PortaBella is known for it’s Warm Apple Tart with roasted almonds, ginger caramel sauce, and vanilla bean ice cream.
