Now that you’re in the Uptown District, you’re within walking distance of some of the best pizza in New Orleans. Pizza Domenica, a spinoff of Chef Alon Shaya’s downtown place, turns out super-delicious wood-fired pies.

The atmosphere at Pizza Domenica is casual and upbeat, with a dining area that is open to the kitchen. This adds to the friendliness, and also offers a good view of the special, custom-made oven that was shipped over from Italy, part of the reason for the superb pizzas. The other is the chef’s spot-on combos of toppings, such as roasted carrot and goat cheese or the NOLA-inspired meaty muffaletta.

While the pizzas are not-to-be-missed, this is also a place to branch out and try some exceptional antipasti. One star dish: a whole head of cauliflower, roasted with olive oil and herbs that’s served with a steak knife piercing its heart, and a tangy goat cheese sauce on the side.

The restaurant has a nice selection of wines, craft beers, specialty beers, craft cocktails—and offers pitchers of specialty house cocktails. If you’re here Monday through Friday during Happy Hour, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., you’ll enjoy half-off on pizza, beer, and wine by the glass.
