Pizza Delicious in the Bywater has received national attention and yet it still retains a comforting, bustling neighborhood pizza joint feel while attracting families, folks who work in the neighborhood, hipsters and a few savvy visitors.

Designed to bring authentic thin-crust New York-style pie to the Crescent City, Pizza Delicious (aka Pizza D), began as a two night a week pop-up and has morphed into one of the city’s most beloved pizza spots at its permanent location on Piety Street. On the way, owners Michael Friedman and Greg Augarten gained national attention via a number of foodie-focused insider guides, and earlier this year their mouth-watering garlic knots were ‘found’ on an exuberant ‘Travel Channel’ television piece.

What is the Pizza D secret? The pizzeria subscribes to successful secrets of the New York tradition: the dough is made two days in advance to let it ferment. As well, the menu sticks with the basics: piping hot pizza, fresh pasta, hefty salads, and the famously pungent pizza-dough garlic knots. Items are reasonably priced with 18-inch pizzas ranging from $15 – $22 and enormous single slices from just $2.25.

If you want to venture off the pizza menu, Pizza D has healthy pasta choices such as a vegan campanelle with tomatoes, kale, red pepper, roasted eggplant puree, or rigatoni with swordfish and eggplant. Beverage choices include moderately priced Italian wines and tasty beer selections from local NOLA Blonde to Brooklyn’s Green Market Wheat.

Pizza D takes an annual summer break and will reopen on August 24, 2015. Open Tuesday – Sunday from 11am to 11pm they also offer cash-only, $15.00 minimum bike delivery every night to Marigny/Bywater neighborhoods from 4pm-10pm.
