Mom Chaffe’s Cellarette is a great little neighborhood restaurant that’s surrounded by other row-house / residential properties.  They’re open Monday – Thursday: 5 pm – 9 pm; Friday & Saturday:  5 pm – 10 pm; Closed Sunday.  They ONLY have street parking, and you’re competing for spots with the people who live in the neighborhood, so you may need to walk a couple blocks, but it’s worth it!

The restaurant has been family owned since the 1930s!  The cuisine is Italian, family-style foods.  There’s a good selection of pasta, seafood and veal dishes, plus one chicken and one steak dish.  And for vegetarians there’s eggplant Parmesan, plus pasta dishes with non-meat sauce options.  The menu is just the right size, big enough to give you options, but not so many choices as to be overwhelming.  Just when I thought I’d made my choice for dinner, our WONDERFUL waitress, Judy, read out the list of specials… they all sounded so good that I changed my mind and opted for one of them, a lump crab dish (photo above)!

If you want to try one of their delicious SOUNDING deserts, be prepared to take some of your appetizers / main courses home.  I was too full to even attempt a taste!

The decor of Mom Chaffe’s is totally cute and cozy.  You’d think that the low ceiling would be somewhat off-putting, but it’s not.  The way the restaurant is painted and decorated it’s perfect.  There’s all kinds of original art on the walls that gives the restaurant a certain charm and character.

If you love Italian cooking, you’ll want to give this restaurant a try!
