Description:

Looking for someplace to take the kids?  Maybe your group wants something interesting to do for a change. Then the Michigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center is just the place for you.  It’s purpose is to enhance the appreciation of firefighting history with engaging and informative exhibits of many firetrucks and equipment from past eras.  These are all housed in a new building but it is connected to the original 1898 firehouse which  is set up as it would have been back in the day, complete with the bunk room and pole for the firefighters to slide down. When you through the restored firehouse, you will see a fire engine steamer completewith horses, ready to go on their way to a fire. The larger, modern addition has 25 changing exhibits of antique fire trucks and early fire rigs, multiple displays of historic artifacts including tools, equipment, memorabilia and the largest collection of fire truck bells in the country.

It is located at one end of the Depot Town area, so there are restaurants and shops near-by.  They are open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 AM -4 PM and Sunday from Noon until 4 PM. Closed on Monday.

From the Author: This is just a fabulous place. It is another link in the chain of museums here in Historic Ypsilanti, so visitors can make a day of learning all about another time through these exhibits.
