Description:

Coloma is where gold was discovered, and it’s the perfect place to learn how to pan for the precious flakes. The Park offers gold panning lessons every day of the week from 10:00am to 3:00pm, on the hour during peak season, and by request off season. The cost is $7.00 per person for a lesson, and the use of a gold pan in their troughs for 45 minutes. Beginners only –  and keep whatever you find in a vial that they provide! They stock the troughs with real gold, fool’s gold, and garnets. If you want more panning action, supplies are available for sale at the Park’s Mercantile store that you can use across the river at the gold panning beach.

The lessons are at Bekeart’s Gun Shop in the Park. It’s a scenic location right by the river and a great place to hear gold seekers call out “Eureka!” when they hit gold.

From the Author: Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is one of our favorite places to picnic, wade in the river in the summer, and go for short walks and longer hikes all year round. The park fee is $8/vehicle with discounts for seniors. When you are weary of gold panning, it’s nice to visit the climate-controlled museum. There you can view one or more of the films that are offered upon request, all included with your day use fee. The lessons are at Bekeart’s Gun Shop in the Park. It’s a scenic location right by the river and a great place to hear gold seekers call out “Eureka!” when they hit gold.
